Convicted spy to publish his story
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- The man convicted as a spy by Russia has signed a deal to publish a book about his experiences in the former Soviet Union. Time Warner Trade Publishing and Little, Brown and Co. announced the deal to publish Edmond Pope's story Tuesday. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. "We are thrilled to be publishing Edmond Pope's book, a story of great courage and intrigue. It will certainly be a gripping tale of Russian technology acquisition gone awry, as well as an intimate expose of a deeply corrupt and Kafkaesque Russia," said Geoff Schandler, executive editor at Little, Brown and Co. The William Morris Agency is representing Pope. Pope was sentenced last year to 20 years in a maximum security prison in Russia, and was later pardoned by Russian President Vladimir Putin on humanitarian grounds because he suffers from a rare form of bone cancer. According to a written statement from the William Morris Agency, Pope's conviction involved a top secret weapon known as a "Squall" torpedo that is more technologically advanced and travels five times faster than any other torpedo in the world. Time Warner is the parent company of CNN. RELATED STORIES: Pardoned spy plans trip home RELATED SITE: Time Warner Bookmark (Little, Brown and Company) | ||||||||||||||||||||||
