Wellstone campaign plane crashes

ELEVETH, Minnesota (CNN) -- A small plane chartered by the campaign of Sen. Paul Wellstone crashed Friday about seven miles east of Eleveth-Virginia Municipal Airport, authorities said.

Eight people were reported aboard the plane, but officials did not know if Wellstone, a Democrat up for re-election this year, was among them.

The plane is a twin-engine turboprop King Air manufactured by Raytheon Aircraft.
