Taft wins in Ohio, CNN projects
COLUMBUS, Ohio (CNN) -- Republican Gov. Bob Taft defeated Democratic challenger Tim Hagan on Tuesday, CNN projects. In pre-election polls, Taft led Hagan by more than 20 percentage points. Hagan, a veteran Cuyahoga County commissioner, was very short on cash during the campaign. Taft, a former Ohio secretary of state, was first elected in 1998. He is the great-grandson of William Howard Taft, 27th president of the United States. Republicans have controlled the Ohio governorship for the past twelve years.
