(CNN) -- Alitalia, Europe's fifth-largest airline, is still 53 percent owned by the Italian government.

With a fleet of 155 aircraft, it flies to 135 destinations in 60 countries.

It has recently joined Air France's SkyTeam global marketing alliance, adding more than 500 destinations to its route map.

An earlier alliance with KLM unravelled amid a plethora of problems at Milan's new airport and the Italian government's indecision in selling its stake in Alitalia.
