(CNN) -- Deutsche Lufthansa is Europe's second-largest airline behind British Airways.

It began scheduled flights on April 6, 1926, and now serves about 350 destinations to 90 countries through code-sharing agreements. It has a fleet of 240 jets.

From its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich, Lufthansa is part of the Star Alliance global network, which includes United Air Lines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways.

Lufthansa is also the world's second-largest cargo carrier and owns 25 percent of logistics group DHL.

Through its subsidiary Lufthansa Technik, it's the leading supplier of engineering services to 320 other airlines.
