High-tech helmet to cushion the blow


(CNN) -- Each year, 600,000 people in the United States are hospitalized for head injuries, according to the University of Missouri Health Care center.

A concussion, or an injury to the head, is serious business. A strong blow to the head might cause a breakdown in the normal flow of brain messages and brain signal functions.

Anyone can get a concussion. They occur in motor vehicle crashes, falls or assaults.

Those at greatest risk are participants in contact sports like football, and people on certain prescription medications.
