High-tech helmet to cushion the blow
(CNN) -- Each year, 600,000 people in the United States are hospitalized for head injuries, according to the University of Missouri Health Care center. A concussion, or an injury to the head, is serious business. A strong blow to the head might cause a breakdown in the normal flow of brain messages and brain signal functions. Anyone can get a concussion. They occur in motor vehicle crashes, falls or assaults.
Those at greatest risk are participants in contact sports like football, and people on certain prescription medications. Keith Oppenheim reports on one company's efforts to protect the heads of high school athletes and make some money as well. |
