Hearing for actress Ryder continued until June
BEVERLY HILLS, California (CNN) -- The preliminary hearing for actress Winona Ryder on four felony counts stemming from an alleged shoplifting incident has been continued until June 3. Ryder pleaded not guilty to the charges in February. The Oscar-nominated star of films such as "The Age of Innocence" and "Girl Interrupted" is accused of shoplifting more than $4,000 worth of merchandise from a Saks Fifth Avenue store in Beverly Hills on December 12. She has been charged with one count each of grand theft, commercial burglary, vandalism and possession of a controlled substance. Mark Geragos, the attorney representing Ryder, told CNN before the arraignment that his client is a victim of prosecutorial overzealousness. Police contend Ryder shoplifted numerous women's hair accessories, handbags and various items of women's clothing. |
