Fast food worker accused of giving marijuana to customer

Story Tools

MILL VALLEY, California -- Would you like marijuana with that?

A fast-food restaurant employee was arrested September 21 after a customer drove up to a Kentucky Fried Chicken drive-in window and received the wrong side order with his chicken dinner: two bags of marijuana.

The customer had ordered biscuits. The patron politely returned the marijuana to the worker, received his biscuits, and then called police.

Carlos Ayala, 26, was arrested moments later at the restaurant. Officers found Ayala with a small amount of marijuana, a handgun and about $500 in his possession, according to police.

Authorities believe Ayala was selling marijuana to customers who used a secret word as a code, said a Marin County sheriff's spokesman. No court dates have been set as of yet.

Bank robbery suspect flees after shooting himself

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Florida -- Authorities are searching for a bumbling bank robber who they believe accidentally shot himself during a heist last week and then was struck by a van as he fled with his bag of cash.

The bank robber, who has not been identified, approached a teller at Wachovia Bank on September 30, pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and demanded money, according to a FBI spokeswoman.

After the teller put an undisclosed amount of cash into a bag, the nervous suspect fiddled with his gun and attempted to put it away in his pocket. That's when witnesses say they heard a gunshot. Though no blood was found in the bank, authorities believe the suspect shot himself.

Then, as the man ran outside and attempted to cross a street, a van ran him over. A passer-by helped him from under the vehicle, at which time the suspect jumped into a red Mitsubishi. Both he and the car's driver, a woman, escaped.

Man takes alligator for a stroll

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- Derrick Dale Cooper wasn't too subtle when he decided to steal a live alligator from a miniature golf course in the middle of the day.

Authorities say Cooper nonchalantly noosed the 3-foot creature with a line used for feeding the reptiles at the Congo River golf attraction. The 22-year-old tourist then pulled the animal over the fence and carried it to his hotel.

Authorities caught up with the gator in the hotel parking lot where they found Cooper struggling with the animal, clutching its tail and holding its mouth closed.

Cooper was arrested on charges of animal poaching and petty theft and was released after posting a $1,000 bail on Oct. 1, according to Volusia County officials.

A similar incident occurred at the golf course at Congo River last year when some tourists were arrested after taking an alligator to their hotel pool where they were caught watching it swim.

Show-off ends up in hospital

ERIE COUNTY, New York -- A man showing off for his girlfriend last week thrust a .22-caliber pistol into his trousers and accidentally shot himself in the groin.

But his troubles were only beginning. The gun that he was using apparently was stolen in 1989 in Buffalo, Erie County authorities said.

When help arrived shortly after midnight on October 3, the man reportedly gave police and medical personnel four different names and dates of birth. He was eventually booked as a John Doe on charges of possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property. He was taken to the emergency room of Erie County Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.

Man, 77, charged with cell phone rage

STRATFORD, Connecticut -- A man is accused of cell phone road rage for forcing a woman off the road because he was angry she was driving with a phone in her hand.

David W. Knight was charged with reckless endangerment and reportedly agreed at the time of his arrest on September 27 that he is "prejudiced against people who talk on cell phones while driving."

The septuagenarian allegedly forced the 19-year-old woman to drive over a curb and onto the pavement, shortly after seeing her stopped at a traffic light with a cell phone in her hand.

The woman said she was about to make a call when the light changed. Moments later, as the two drove under a railroad viaduct, Knight sharply swerved his Ford Explorer to the right, forcing the woman off the road, police said.
