(PEOPLE) -- All thanks to celebs like Calista Flockhart and Thandie Newton, who are shouldering the burden and showing us the latest must-see body part.
"It's fall now, and women are looking for a new appropriate way to show some skin," says L.A. stylist Cary Fetman. "This trend allows them to do so in an elegant, sexy way."
And if beauty is in the eye of the shoulder beholder this season, fear not.
"Almost all women's shoulders are beautiful, but their arms may not be," adds Fetman. "With cutouts and slits, you can show what you like, hide what you don't."
Just in time for flu-shot season.
