'The Sweetest Thing' premiereIn Style (In Style) -- The event: The New York premiere of the sexy girl-powered comedy "The Sweetest Thing", featuring Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate and Selma Blair as three gutsy gal pals out for a good time. And rounding out the flick were newcomer Thomas Jane, who plays Diaz's love interest, and former teen heartthrob Jason Bateman as his smarmy loser brother. Working with three of Hollywood's top actresses was "horrible," said Bateman as he shook his head, feigning contempt. "Maybe if they'd just shown up sober, it would've been OK. They were drunk on the set, on the way to the set, always." THE GUEST LISTThe cast, plus Ben Chaplin, Molly Shannon, Liev Schreiber, Parker Posey, Lance Bass, Julie Bowen, Shoshanna Lonstein, Ivanka Trump, Nikki Hilton, Harvey Weinstein and many more. THE SETTINGRoseland Ballroom, the venue that's hosted everything from fashion shows to rock concerts, was transformed into an intimate, dreamy den illuminated by dimmed lamps and hundreds of candles cradled in red votive candleholders. The A-list crowd mingled and grooved to Prince, Britney Spears, Blondie and Michael Jackson and munched on delicate desserts, including miniature chocolate, lemon and nut pastries and chocolate-covered strawberries. The drink of choice -- both in the film and at the party -- was the martini, served in various incarnations. OVERHEARD
Blair was chatting with a table of friends when she took a moment to admit that yes, she has quite a bit in common with Jane, the goofily uptight bed-hopper she plays in the movie. "Like Jane, I do humiliate myself, but I'm not as open to sexual experiences as she is," she said. "But I do like to make people laugh." Speaking of humility, Diaz went on to explain a certain scene in the movie in which Applegate attempts to relieve herself in a urinal, which explodes in her face. "I've never done that," said Diaz, referring to Applegate's men's-room faux pas, "but I guess it was a first-time mistake."
