(In Style) -- The event: The 2002 MTV Movie Awards, co-hosted by Jack Black and Sarah Michelle Gellar, with performances by Eminem, Kelly Osbourne and the White Stripes, at L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium. The show will air June 6 on MTV.

Presenters included Adam Sandler, Will Smith, Hilary Swank, Mike Myers, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Winona Ryder, Kate Beckinsale and Ewan McGregor, who were joined by nominees Nicole Kidman, Mandy Moore, Reese Witherspoon, and many others.

FOR THE RECORD

Slighted by the Oscars, "The Lord of the Rings" took home MTV's best movie award; Witherspoon snagged best comedic performance; and Seann William Scott and Jason Biggs took home the best kiss trophy for their work in "American Pie 2."

A purple carpet in lieu of the traditional red was the first indication that this wasn't just any awards show. Stars' style ran the gamut -- from Charlize Theron's elegant black blouse and Dolce & Gabbana denim to Swank's wild mix of drum majorette jacket and denim-and-diamonds combination to "Jackass'" Steve-O, who streaked into the auditorium wearing only a red, white and blue thong.
