(In Style) -- The setting: The American Film Institute's tribute to Lifetime Achievement Award winner Tom Hanks, held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, June 12.

THE GUEST LIST

The man of honor and his wife Rita Wilson, director Steven Spielberg, Sharon Stone, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, Steve Martin, Helen Hunt, Meg Ryan, Angie Harmon, Hugh Hefner and girls and many more.

THE RAISON D'ETRE

Even as the youngest recipient (45), Hanks was given the award for being a movie immortal, and for, as Spielberg claimed "picking up the flag and carrying it into America," in reference to their collaboration on "Saving Private Ryan." The Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor for a career in film.

THE VIBE

Comedians Martin, Tim Allen and Dennis Miller all paid their comedic respects, as did co-stars Hunt, Ryan and Haley Joel Osment, his son in Forrest Gump.
