(InStyle) -- In "The Banger Sisters," Goldie Hawn plays Suzette, a former super-groupie who sets out to prove that solid friendships don't die.

To reflect Suzette's eternally youthful attitude, costume designer Jacqueline West did her homework. "I researched L.A. groupies," she says, "and even followed some to clubs. Goldie's wardrobe is all of what I saw and loved."

Decades after she and Vinnie (Susan Sarandon) earned their moniker by getting their groove on with the most infamous musicians of the sixties, Suzette refuses to bow to age-related stereotypes and inspires Vinnie to return to her roots. West predicts Suzette's style will spread beyond the screen. "A lot of women will go shopping after seeing her -- and not to the designer departments."

We say rock on.

Hair

Hairstylist Linda DeAndrea used a professional marcel curling Iron (available at beauty supply stores) to produce Hawn's "wild but beautiful, just got out of bed but still looking good look." Hawn usually wears her hair smooth and sleek, but for this groupie turned bartender, DeAndrea wanted to create the "tossed, sexy" appearance of a full head of naturally curly hair.

She achieved this with a combination of tight spiral curls and slightly waved pieces while leaving some sections completely straight. To maintain the curl, while keeping hair soft and clean to allow for movement, DeAndrea used Sebastian Shaper or a French hairspray called Phytolaque Soie. After long days of shooting, she would apply Redken Water Wax, a lightweight pomade, to reduce frizz.

Makeup

To keep Hawn's look updated because "Suzette is still in competition with the younger set of groupies," makeup artist Cheri Minns used contemporary colors and painted the actress's nails with glitter polish from Hard Candy. She combined Shiseido The Makeup foundation in I60 and O40 as a base underneath a dusting of Chanel Natural Finish powder in Translucent 1. Eye shadow in Strobe and French Blue pencil, both by Lancôme, were used to bring out Hawn's bright blue eyes. Minns applied Origins Underwear for Lashes to thicken lashes, followed by Lancôme Définicils mascara in black for added "oomph."

Lips

She created "cotton candy-looking lips" with Stila lip pencil in Contour 9, Urban Decay lipstick in Burn Out and copious amounts of Hard Candy Super Shine lip gloss in Pixie. Hawn, who normally doesn't wear gloss, soon began to love her polished pout. "Like most women," explains Minns, "she loves sparkly, shiny makeup."

Clothes

West thought every item in Suzette's wardrobe should be "black, provocative, edgy" and small enough to fit in her purse -- "portable clothes for a gypsy life." A flower child who flies by the seat of her French vinyl pants, Suzette's ever-present past is reflected with elements like a Kabaya, an antique Indonesian wedding blouse, and belts embellished with beads and studs.

To fill Suzette's shoes -- in this case, silver wedge sandals autographed by renowned rockers -- Hawn used this eclectic mix of clothing and accessories to get into character.

She contributed to the selection of each item and even slept in Suzette's jewelry at night. Among these baubles was the signature "S" necklace, based on a similar piece worn by a London groupie whom West ran into years ago at a party. The hosts of said bash? A popular British boy band called the Rolling Stones.
