MEXICO CITY, Mexico (CNN) -- The family of Thalia, an internationally known Latin singer and actress, is holding talks with a gang that kidnapped her two sisters, Mexican government officials said Wednesday.

Thalia Sodi, a widely popular performer in Latin America, is the wife of Tommy Mottola, the Sony music chief.

Sodi's sisters are Laura Zapata, a well-known TV and stage actress, and Ernestina Sodi, an author.

The women were leaving a theater in the San Rafael neighborhood of Mexico City early Sunday when they were snatched by kidnappers.

It is thought that the kidnappers have contacted the family with ransom demands.

Mexican authorities said they can't get involved unless a complaint is filed on the matter, but the family doesn't want to involve police, thinking that to do so could endanger the women's lives.
