Hill
Hill had a casual, undone look for InStyle's cover shoot.

(InStyle) -- "Have family, will travel" is Faith Hill's motto.

So when InStyle beckoned her to New York for a cover shoot, Hill arrived with her husband, country singer Tim McGraw, and their three daughters in tow. And although Daddy kept the brood busy by taking in the city's sights (FAO Schwartz was a winner), the girls -- Gracie, 5, Maggie, 4, and Audrey, 11 months -- did visit Mom on the set. "They knew what they liked and didn't like their Mommy in," says stylist Freddie Leiba.

Hill enjoyed her own big-city tour as well: The multi-location shoot took place at a midtown concert hall, at a downtown nightclub, and on Wall Street, where she posed with local performers -- a juggler, a fire-breather and a pair of acrobats. Talk about a Big Apple circus.

Hair

"Faith is such a lovely person and has an open and warm personality that a natural, free-flowing hairstyle seemed to just complement her," says hairstylist Bob Recine of the singer's cover look.

To get this casual, undone look, Recine began by spritzing L'Oréal Volumatic Root-Lift Spray Gel onto Hill's wet hair to give it more substance and body. After blow-drying he added J.F. Lazartigue Protective Hair Cream to the ends -- a trick he often uses to protect and add moisture to the hair.

Recine then used both rollers and a curling iron to achieve sexy waves. "It was a natural look for her, so it was a very natural process as well," Recine added.

Makeup

Makeup artist Genevieve had her hands full both preparing Hill for the cover shots and helping keep Hill's three sweet and well-behaved daughters occupied. "They love makeup so I let them play with some of it," says Genevieve.

For a flawless cover look she applied a base of Kiehl's moisturizer and Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer on Hill's face.

Next, Genevieve lined the top lash lines with Laura Mercier cake eyeliner in Blue Marine, smudged with a Q-tip for a smoky effect. She also used Laura Mercier eye shadow in Silver Screen at the inner corner of the eyes and Black Smoke blended at the outer corner. Two coats of L'Oréal Le Grand Curl mascara in black were brushed on her lashes to complete the eyes.

For a subtle cheek and mouth Genevieve applied Laura Mercier Face Tint in Blushing, lip liner in Chestnut and gloss in Rose Glacé.

Clothes

"She loves clothes -- pretty feminine things," says Leiba. The sexy, pale blouse and skirt by Gucci, seen on the cover, may have satisfied Hill's feminine side, but the singer also tried on some of fall's hottest items, including a stunning white coat by Louis Vuitton. "She loved the white coat, but it was hot out and she was a trooper to wear it in the heat," says Leiba of the shots taken on the streets of downtown Manhattan. Another of Hill's favorites: Jimmy Choo shoes.
