MUNICH, Germany -- Oasis singer Liam Gallagher could be charged with assaulting a police officer after a fight in which he lost two teeth, German police have said.

The band said they were involved in an "unprovoked attack" at a Munich hotel nightclub over the weekend that led to them cancelling a show.

But police rejected that version of events and said the 30-year-old star kicked an officer in the chest before he could be subdued. They said on Monday they were now considering a charge of assault against the singer, the Press Association reported.

Gallagher and the band's drummer Alan White were among five members of the band's entourage caught up in the brawl in a nightclub at the Bayerischer Hof hotel. They were arrested and later released without being immediately charged.

A concert in Munich on Sunday had to be postponed and a show in Hamburg, scheduled for Monday, has been cancelled as the singer undergoes emergency dental work.

Two of the group's security guards were also forced to seek hospital treatment, one after being knocked unconscious, the Web site said.

"Several members of Oasis and their entourage were the victims of an unprovoked attack by a group of youths in a Munich club last night, where they were during their European tour," a report on the band's Web site said.

"Liam Gallagher sustained facial injuries, including several broken teeth, while two of the group's security guards were forced to seek hospital treatment, one after being knocked unconscious."

Oasis became hugely popular in the mid-1990s. The group's 1995 album "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" debuted at No. 1 in the UK and became the second-best selling album in British history.

However, their success has often been overshadowed by sibling feuding between Gallagher and his songwriting brother Noel. The band's lead guitarist once quit an American tour and later refused to tour with Liam in Europe.

In August this year, Oasis cancelled several sell-out shows in the United States after Noel Gallagher, bass player Andy Bell and keyboard player Jay Darlington were injured in a head-on car crash.

Oasis started the European leg of their world tour in November and are due to play in the United Kingdom in December.
