The pre-Grammy party of the year
(In Style) -- The event: J Records president Clive Davis's pre-Grammys dinner party on February 26. THE GUESTSMusicians including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock, Pamela Anderson, Tony Bennett, Freda Payne, Courtney Love, Rob Thomas, Carlos Santana, Rod Stewart, Mea, Stevie Wonder, Barry Manilow and more. THE SETTINGThe ballroom of L.A.'s classic Beverly Hills Hotel. Music-industry moguls and mega-star recording artists rubbed elbows and wished each other well for the following night's competition. Harmony was the mood of the intimate evening, and more than one deal was no doubt brokered. Spears and the members of 'N Sync held court at a table front and center, while the Backstreet Boys sat two tables away. Courtney Love gabbed to Universal Records' Zack Horowitz at another table, while her daughter, Frances Bean, looked on. THE CLOTHES
The invitation called for black tie, but seeing how this was a music crowd, most people came in rock and roll regalia: lots of tight dresses, leather, floppy hats and sky-high heels -- with the occasional pair of jeans, courtesy of Slash and Diana Krall. THE HIGH NOTEFollowing dessert, guests sipped champagne as they danced and swayed to the sounds of the most eclectic group of performers. Alicia Keys, P. Diddy, Angie Stone, Busta Rhymes and Krall were among those onstage; but the grand finale was an all-star jam session featuring Destiny's Child, Timberlake, Patti LaBelle, Stone, Keys and Wonder performing Wonder's hits "I Wish," "As" and "Superstition," along with Keys's hit "Fallin'."
