Body found in rock singer's home in Seattle

SEATTLE, Washington (CNN) -- A body has been removed from the University District residence of Layne Staley, the lead singer of the Seattle rock group Alice in Chains, a spokesman for the King County Sheriff's Department said Saturday.

Sgt. Cameron Webster said the body is partially decomposed, and officials from the county medical examiner's office have not identified it. The body was found Friday.

Medical examiners are still in the process of identifying the body, comparing dental records and contacting next of kin, said Jim Sosik of the King County medical examiner's office. That process could be completed later Saturday, and, at that time, the name of the victim is expected to be released.

There are local media reports quoting officials who say the body could be Staley's. Alice in Chains was prominent in Seattle's early 1990s heyday of grunge rock.
