Military-style jackets make the lookPrivate collection
PEOPLE (PEOPLE) -- Taking a uniform approach to fashion, stars like Drew Barrymore, Kate Moss and Nelly Furtado are stepping out in sleek military-style jackets. The inspiration comes from "a good old Army jacket," says Manhattan designer Marc Jacobs, whose $258 cropped cotton Marc by Marc Jacobs version is a hot seller this season. "It's feminine and casual." Not to mention "a fresh alternative to the jean jacket," adds celebrity stylist Samantha McMillen. "With jeans and a T-shirt it's casual," says stylist Petra Pfaffli. "It's more playful to wear a summery dress with this edgy jacket over it." Which helps explain why the style is enjoying a revival.
"They were very big in the '60s," says L.A. stylist George Blodwell. "They weren't worn as an antimilitary protest, they just looked great." Plus, "that Army green is a great color," raves actress Monet Mazur. "It's my new favorite jacket for summer." And there's little chance of fashion fatigue. "They make such a strong statement," says Blodwell. "They're fantastic on a girl." Teena Hammond contributed to this report.
