Winner's circle: Actors react to Emmy wins
(CNN) -- At the outset of Emmy night many thought this would be the year of the newcomer with shows like "24," "Alias" and "Six Feet Under" stealing the spotlight. But in the end, some of the Emmy stalwarts stole the show. Here's what some of Sunday night's winners had to say. Michael Chiklis, best actor in a drama series, "The Shield" "I can only describe this as a perfect year. Perfect." Jennifer Aniston, best lead actress in a comedy series, "Friends" "It's such a blur to me. All I know is that I just kept saying to Brad, 'I didn't thank Warner Brothers, and I didn't thank NBC and I didn't thank my agents' -- all of those people. You have those moments when you go, 'This is nine years,' and all of a sudden you're just -- 'I'm such a blithering idiot.' I just wished I had thought about something to say, and I didn't do that. I didn't think I was going to win." Ray Romano, best actor in a comedy series, "Everybody Loves Raymond" "I'm a standup comedian, so my first goal is I have to be funny. If I win, I [have to] go up there, thank everybody. I [have] to tell my wife I love her, because I do. I don't have to; I want to. But I [have] to be funny. So there is always pressure to be funny. For me, it's a win-win situation. If I win, I win, good. If I lose, I don't have that pressure. 'Are these bits going to work? Are these jokes going to work?' Having said that, four years in a row, I didn't have that pressure." Matthew Perry, best comedy series, "Friends" "So good. It's so great, you know. It's kind of surreal. This show has had an interesting run at the Emmys. We've been nominated, I think, six times, [and] not nominated one time. One year, we got nominated and then they said they had made a mistake and we weren't nominated. And now that the show has won... We're so proud of Jenny who won, too." Stockard Channing, best supporting actress in a drama series, "The West Wing" "To all those people that we know who are no longer with us, who have suffered from the inhumanity of their fellow man, may we never forget them." Doris Roberts, best supporting actress in a comedy, "Everybody Loves Raymond" "This is what happens when you're young and sexy." Martin Sheen, best drama series, "The West Wing" "We just surrendered to the script. This is our fourth year and it's gotten better and better and better."
