(InStyle) -- This fall Gretchen Mol plays attorney Lynne Camden on "Girls Club," the new Fox drama from powerhouse producer David E. Kelley about a trio of Stanford Law grads struggling to break through the glass ceiling.

Unlike another popular Kelley character -- a Boston lawyer whose minis made waves -- Lynne is a poised and promising associate who keeps her cool in tailored suits. Costume designer Mimi Melgaard describes her as "stylish and modern within a professional environment." More realistic than the phantasmagoric "Ally McBeal" (you won't see stern legal eagles belting out show tunes in these hallowed halls), "Girls Club" does retain an element of fantasy. But in real life, "none of these girls wear suits," says Melgaard. "They live in L.A."

Hair

Lynne should look as though "she's got a simple beauty, a natural sophistication that comes without a whole lot of work," notes hairstylist Jill Crosby. She prefers youthfully tousled and textured tresses shaped with creams and leave-in conditioners, like Fudge 1 Shot. After shampooing and conditioning with organic products from Nature's Gate, Crosby mixes Joico Context Variation Pliable Paste with Kérastase Nutri-Liss to protect hair from styling tools. For waves even the ocean would envy, she pin-curls Mol's mane, wrapping separate sections around her fingers before securing them with clips and then drying hair with a diffuser. For finishing touches and all-day hold, Crosby applies Aveda Flax Seed Aloe styling gel or Giovanni (non-aerosol) hairspray. Says Crosby, "Lynne should seem as though she makes an effort, but in that effort I still want to see soft edges."

Eyes

As an eye base, Turchi spreads Benefit Crème eye shadow in Naughty Feather and Traffic School over lids before strategically dusting on shadows from Stila Bohemian Sage trio, using the darkest shade at corners and in the crease. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel eyeliner in Sepia Ink, which Turchi deems "every woman's answer to the trauma of liquid liner," is swept along Mol's lash lines for definition, while Lanc me Définicils mascara in black is brushed through curled lashes to open up the eyes. Turchi recommends MAC eyebrow pencil in Fling as "the perfect taupe color for the fair-skinned blonde."

Makeup

Makeup artist Jennifer Turchi begins by applying Lorac Coverup in C3 underneath a blend of Laura Mercier foundation in Blush Ivory and Shell Beige. She smoothes Stila Sport Push-Up in Rouge Flash onto the apples of Mol's cheeks and follows with a dusting of Shu Uemura Face Powder in Colorless. For Mol's full lips, she shies away from lip liner and matte finishes, opting for sheer stains like Stila Sport Clear Color in wine, plum and red. "Gretchen has these yummy, pouty lips that I can't bring myself to cover up with anything opaque or too lipsticky," raves Turchi. Skeptical about this lip tip? Sneak a peak at Mol's mouth on Monday night. Case closed.

Clothes

Mol's elegant office attire will make you forget the term casual Friday. "I'll take a classic suit and do something different with it," explains Melgaard, who selects a frame-flattering Dolce & Gabbana ensemble with soft shoulders or head-to-toe Prada for the budding litigator. She'll transform a traditional outfit by incorporating a wide-leg pant or embroidery on the lapel "to offset the severity of most suits that you find out there for women." The first few episodes find the triumvir lounging at home in Juicy Couture sweats and jeans. Mol wears simple pieces in subdued colors like pastels and earth tones that are reconstructed or updated in trendy fabrics. For Mol's dressed-down scenes, Melgaard favors tank tops with chic cashmere sweaters from Koy, Gucci and Jil Sander. Whether dressed to kill or just chill, "Gretchen is timeless," says the designer. "She can wear anything, even jeans and a T-shirt, and it flows and is romantic and magical." How's that for a closing statement?
