NEW YORK (CNN) -- The Washington Post.com, CNET News.com and CNN.com were recognized for excellence in digital journalism Friday at the third annual Online Journalism Awards.

The winners were announced during a banquet at the third national conference of the Online News Association.

CNN.com won in the breaking news category of Web sites affiliated with other media, such as television, for its coverage of the terror attacks on September 11. (Read the story)

Washington Post.com and CNET News.com both won in multiple categories.

The Post won in the affiliated category for general excellence for Web sites getting 200,000 unique visitors a month and for enterprise journalism.

CNET picked up independent awards for general excellence, enterprise journalism and breaking news.

Ten countries this year submitted 728 entries in eight different categories which were judged by a panel of 12 journalists with extensive experience in new and old media.

The awards are sponsored by the Online News Association and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.
