Sony taking Linux orders in U.S. for Playstation 2
By Laura Rohde (IDG) -- Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has begun taking orders on its U.S. Web site for a version of Linux for the PlayStation 2 (PS2) game console. The kit with Linux version 1.0 software for PS2 is priced at $200, and is expected to begin shipping on May 22, Sony said on its Web site. The price includes a 40G-byte hard disk, an Ethernet adapter, a mouse and a keyboard, Sony said. Sony first announced the PS2 Linux kit in Japan last May, in response to demand from Linux users, and last October promised a version of Linux for the PS2 in the U.S. Sony notes on its Web site that the hard disk drive included in the Linux kit cannot be used with HDD-compatible PlayStation 2 games. |
