Laptop composers take free samples
(CNN) -- If you listen to popular music, you've undoubtedly heard songs that feature parts of tunes previously recorded by other artists. The practice is called "sampling." While it's often done with the permission of the original artist, sometimes samples are taken without that consent. You might be surprised to learn that's not necessarily illegal.
