Toshiba unveils its latest Pocket PC

PC World

By Laura Rohde

LONDON, England (IDG) -- Toshiba unveiled its Pocket PC e310, a personal digital assistant (PDA) using Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 software, at the Microsoft Mobility Developer Conference here on Wednesday.

This is a worldwide release with the handheld being available beginning today (Wednesday), depending on language availability in the software," says Toshiba spokesperson Manuel Linnig.

He says it is available in localized versions, including English, French and Spanish.

The street price of the PDA is $441, Linnig says.

On the Inside

The Pocket PC e310 contains a 206-MHz Intel StrongArm processor and has a Secure Digital expansion slot that can be used to increase memory from 32MB to 288MB, or to add cable-free connectivity with an SD Bluetooth card, Linnig says.

The Pocket PC e310 is aimed at the consumer market, a change of pace for the Tokyo company, which released the more enterprise-oriented Pocket PC e570 earlier in the year.

That product has 64MB of built-in memory, two expansion slots and a list price of $569.
