(CNN) -- Your mom probably warned you not to sit too close to the television, but she never said anything about putting the screen an inch away from your eyes.

The Eye-Trek virtual reality goggles simulate a 62-inch screen while plugged into your portable DVD player, TV or VCR.

Once the goggles are on your face, the images appear as if you were standing 6-and-a-half feet away from the screen, with standard or wide display options.

Images are clear and colors are rich. But the sides of the glasses allow light to come through, which can be distracting.

Headphones are attached to the eyeglass frame and provide three-dimensional sound, similar to that found in movie theaters.

The Eye-Trek's remote lets you control image, sound settings and even a security password.

You can charge the glasses with an AC adapter, but if you find cables annoying, you can opt for the version that requires four double "A" batteries that will last up to three hours.

If you're a video game junkie, one model of the goggles lets you play to your heart's content on Sony's PlayStation 2.

But the price for such a luxury is steep. The goggles range in cost from $250 to $1,200 -- depending on which model you choose.
