Two Philly terminals evacuatedPHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- Authorities at Philadelphia International Airport evacuated two terminals Friday evening after a woman breached security by walking through a closed checkpoint, officials said. The woman was in custody Friday night and Philadelphia police and federal authorities were questioning her, said airport spokesman Mark Pesce. He said the incident happened at 6:30 p.m. when the woman went through a closed metal detector lane. Airport security saw on surveillance tapes that the woman then proceeded to her terminal and boarded her flight, which was then halted. At that point, Pesce said, airport authorities halted all flights and evacuated the approximately 2,000 people in Terminals B and C -- where the woman had been -- and on all planes still at their gates. U.S. Airways is the only carrier that operates from those terminals. The FAA issued a brief ground stop for "security concerns," but that was lifted by Friday evening and the terminals were reopened, an FAA spokeswoman said. She said there was no threat to the airport. All evacuated passengers had to be rescreened, Pesce said. |
