Screening resumes at L.A. InternationalFive terminals emptied when device is found not workingLOS ANGELES (CNN) -- About two hours after a screening device malfunctioned Thursday at Los Angeles International, the airport resumed normal operations. Hundreds of people had been forced to be rescreened. Authorities, however, said the glitch had posed no threat. Police spokesman Guillermo Campos said Terminals 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 were evacuated after the magnetometer was found not to be working. It may have stopped functioning as early as 5 a.m. PST (8 a.m. EST), but the malfunction wasn't discovered until more than an hour later, he said. There was no word on how many flights were affected by the problem. |
