Trans-Atlantic flight makes emergency landing
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (CNN) -- A Delta Air Lines jet bound for London made an emergency landing Sunday after the captain suspected a mechanical problem with one of the engines, an airline spokesman said. Flight 12, which took off from Atlanta at 5:50 p.m. EST for London Gatwick Airport, landed at Charlotte Douglas International Airport at 7:45 p.m. EST, said Delta spokesman Anthony Black. The MD-11 landed without incident, he said, and the 231 passengers exited on emergency slides. None was injured, he said. Black said the nature of the mechanical problem was unclear. "We don't even know that it was a mechanical problem," he said. "The captain just got an indication." Delta was trying to bring another aircraft to Charlotte to take the passengers to London Sunday evening, he said. |
