Security breach turns into drug bust

Passenger arrested for marijuana possession

CINCINNATI, Ohio (CNN) -- An apparent security breach at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport delayed flights and led authorities to evacuate three concourses for hours Sunday.

A 39-year-old passenger, identified as Charles Scott Cowsert of Council Grove, Kansas, ran from the gate area after an airport screener noticed a bulge in his sock. "He left behind his cowboy boots and luggage but he came back and the police were there," said DOT spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen.

Cowsert was arrested by airport police for possession of marijuana, said airport spokesman Ted Bushelman.

The apparent breach, which happened shortly after 9 a.m. EDT, led authorities to evacuate concourses A, B, and C and caused "hundreds, if not thousands of passenger delays," Bushelman said.

A Delta spokeswoman said passengers were rescreened. Concourse C was the last to reopen, at 12:10 p.m. EDT.

Delta Air Lines operates out of Concourses A and B. Comair, a commuter division of Delta, operates out of Concourse C.

Passengers on 10 flights which departed during the security trouble were rescreened on their arrival at their destinations, said Bergen.
