Part of Cincinnati/Kentucky airport evacuatedTwo concourses closed as 'prudent measure'CNN Washington Bureau WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) evacuated a terminal Thursday morning at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport after a passenger set off an alarm at a screening checkpoint metal detector. "The passenger kept walking rather than be rescreened by the hand wand," said Dave Steigman, a TSA spokesman. The incident is among the first faced by new federal screeners who were deployed to the airport last week. Concourses A and B in Terminal 3 were closed as a "prudent measure" said Steigman. "Someone was in the sterile area that was not quote-unquote 'clean,'" said another TSA spokesman, Heather Rosenker. The areas have since been re-opened and re-screening is underway for passengers involved in the security breach. A spokesman for the airport says Terminal B is the biggest concourse at the airport. Both concourses serve Delta Air Lines. Delta spokeswoman Kristi Tucker said 20 flights have been delayed at the airport up to one-and-three-quarter hours. The flights affected carry some 2,800 passengers. |
