Standoff over in Michigan courthouse shootingMOUNT PLEASANT, Michigan (CNN) -- A man suspected of shooting and killing three people outside a central Michigan county courthouse Tuesday was later taken into custody after a standoff at his home, according to police. Police surrounded the house where suspect Thomas Howard Wendt barricaded himself after the shootings in the parking lot of the Isabella County Trial Court. After several hours of negotiation, police took Wendt into custody without incident shortly after 5 p.m., according to a statement from the Mount Pleasant Police Department. The victims were identified as Douglas Alan McCoy, Vicki Sue Keller and Brandie Lea Keller, all of Mount Pleasant, according to police. The shootings were believed to be the result of a domestic dispute. It was not immediately clear whether the victims were entering or leaving the courthouse when the shootings took place. Mount Pleasant is in mostly rural central lower Michigan, about 155 miles northwest of Detroit. |
