NEW YORK (CNN) -- Search crews recovered the remains of six people Saturday from the wreckage of the World Trade Center, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The crews carried the flag-draped stretchers from Ground Zero on Saturday afternoon, including one containing the remains of a New York firefighter, officials said.

The terror victims were found in what was the complex's South Tower, the focal point for searchers in recent days, according to a spokesman for the city's Office of Emergency Management.

A total of 12 victims' remains have been found in the area since Friday night, said spokesman Robert Calise. The remains of at least 11 firefighters were found earlier this week in the South Tower rubble, according to fire officials.

Recovery crews have said they believe so many remains are being found there because the 110-story building collapsed first, leaving those inside little time to escape.

Calise identified four Manhattan firefighters whose bodies were found recently.

They are Paul Ruback from Ladder Company 25; Vincent Morello from Ladder Company 35; and Michael Lynch and Lt. John Ginley from Engine Company 40.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg spoke Saturday at funeral services for another firefighter John Collins, who also died in the September 11 attacks.
