New daily newspaper debuts in New YorkNEW YORK (CNN) -- A new daily paper hit newsstands Tuesday in New York. The New York Sun, which is a broadsheet, will compete for readers in the city's highly competitive news market. The paper costs 50 cents and will be published Mondays through Fridays. It has a mix of local and world news. More than 60,000 copies will be distributed at nearly 4,000 newsstands across the city. In its first issue, the paper contained 18 pages. It ran front-page articles about Mayor Michael Bloomberg, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, and an Iraqi opposition leader. In a press release, the Sun said it plans to make coverage of New York City a priority. The paper's editor and president is Seth Lipsky, former editor in chief of the Jewish newspaper Forward and a former editor at The Wall Street Journal. The vice president and managing editor is Ira Stoll, editor of the Web site Smartertimes.com. |
