Former L.A. Police Chief Gates wants old job
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Former Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates tells CNN that he plans to reapply for his old job. Gates initially made the remarks on a Los Angeles-area radio broadcast Tuesday. He told CNN that when the position officially opens, he expects to apply for it. The controversial, 75-year-old former chief left office in 1992 after serving as Chief for 14 years. His resignation came amidst the controvesy surrounding the beating of Rodney King. Bernard Parks, the LAPD's current chief, announced Monday that he plans to resign within the next week after being denied a second term by the Police Commission earlier this month and was unsuccessful in getting the City Council to reconsider. |
