Afghan war detainees move indoors in CubaWASHINGTON (CNN) -- Afghan war detainees from Camp X-Ray at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have been transferred to new indoor housing, Pentagon sources said Monday. The new facility, known as Camp Delta, has 408 cells. Another 204 are in the process of being built and are expected to be completed by the end of May. Guantanamo is holding 300 detainees. Camp X-Ray is now empty, but eight detainees are in the hospital, and two others are being held separately in isolation for disruptive behavior, officials said. Pentagon officials said the completion of Camp Delta opens the way for more of the 256 detainees in Afghanistan to be moved to Cuba in the days ahead. |
