Freight train slams dump truck, derails
INDIANTOWN, Florida (CNN) -- A freight train derailed Wednesday after hitting a dump truck that tried to cross railroad tracks in southeastern Florida, authorities said. The truck driver was injured and airlifted to a hospital. "It was a train versus a dump truck," said Kim Casey, a dispatcher with Martin County. The accident, in a rural area northwest of West Palm Beach, happened on a crossing on State Road 710 at about 1 p.m. She said eight cars derailed out of about 30 to 38 cars. She said there were no reports of any leaks. Video from the scene showed three tanker cars had derailed, but all remained upright. |
