LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A standoff between a man holed up in an office at the CBS television complex here and police ended Tuesday evening when the man turned a gun on himself, police said.

According to Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Jason Lee, at 9:25 p.m. (12:25 a.m. EDT Wednesday), the man shot himself in the abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The incident began around 5 p.m. (8 p.m. EDT) when the man crashed a small, two-door brown pickup truck into the guard gate at the television center. He then drove to the main entrance, jumped out and entered the building carrying a handgun, said LAPD spokesman David Kalisch.

There, the man pointed his gun at security guards and continued his way inside the complex. SWAT team members later surrounded the compound.

Employees at the complex were immediately evacuated. Negotiations with the man continued throughout the evening, even as he threatened suicide, police said. He made no demands.

"The Price Is Right" game show is taped at CBS Television City, and it is home to the Los Angeles bureau of CBS News.
