Toddler killed in police chase
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A police car chase through downtown Los Angeles ended Saturday morning with the death of a 3-year-old girl. The driver of a car that had been reported stolen led police on a four-minute chase shortly before noon (3 p.m. EDT), said Officer Jack Richter of the Los Angeles Police Department. During the chase, the car ran a red light and collided with a minivan, police said. The van then swerved onto a sidewalk and knocked down a traffic light: The light struck and killed the child, who was walking with her mother and sister at the time. Two people in the minivan and the suspect suffered serious to critical injuries, police said. They were taken to an area hospital. |
