Dozens hurt in Chicago train collision
AURORA, Illinois (CNN) -- At least 30 people were injured when two commuter trains connecting Chicago and its western suburbs collided at the start of the evening rush Wednesday, police said. The inbound and outbound commuter trains collided at low speed just east of Aurora about 3:20 p.m. (4:20 p.m. EDT). A total 60 passengers were on the two trains, both of which were on the same track. Tom Miller, a spokesman for the Chicago regional commuter rail agency Metra, said one locomotive and three passenger cars derailed. He said those needing treatment were taken to hospitals, but that none of the injuries were life-threatening. The uninjured passengers were being bused to their destinations, said Metra spokeswoman Audrey Renteria. Rush hour service from Chicago on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line was not affected, Miller said. |
