Gas prices drop nearly a penny
CAMARILLO, California (CNN) -- In the past three weeks, the average cost of gasoline nationwide fell nearly one cent per gallon, continuing a very stable period in gas prices that began in April, according to a survey released Sunday. "It is a standout period of five and a half months of very little change in the national average price," said Trilby Lundberg, publisher of the Lundberg Survey. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline on September 13 was $1.4181, down from $1.4240 in the August 23 survey.
"Prices have stayed within a three-cent range for five and a half months because crude oil prices did not roller-coaster, and gasoline supply met gas demand smoothly," she said. The current price of $1.41 is more than 11 cents below the price a year ago, in a survey taken September 7, 2001. Atlanta had the cheapest gas of all, at $1.22 per gallon of self-serve regular. The most expensive was in Honolulu, at $1.65. |
