Washington (CNN) -- Linda Franklin, 47, the ninth person killed in the Washington region by a sniper's bullet, was a wife, mother and an FBI Intelligence Operations Specialist.

FBI officials emphasized Tuesday that she was not involved in the current investigation into D.C.-area shootings. Officials said they do not believe she was targeted because of her job.

Sources told CNN that Franklin began working for the FBI in 1998 and for a time had been an analyst in counterterrorism. She was currently working in the Cyber Division at the National Infrastructure Protection Center at FBI headquarters. The NIPC assesses threats against major structures and cyber networks.

She was a wife and the mother of a grown son and daughter. A family spokesman said she was a breast cancer survivor but offered no further details.

FBI Director Robert Mueller issued a statement after learning of Franklin's death:

"Linda was a dedicated employee, and she will be missed. I know I speak for all of the FBI when I say that our thoughts and prayers go out to Linda's husband William, her two adult children, and her family and friends. The employees who worked with Linda -- and all of us -- are deeply shocked and angry over this tragedy."

"I am confident that our investigative team will find the killer and stop the senseless murders that have devastated the families of 11 victims and paralyzed the Washington area with fear," Mueller said.

Franklin and her husband planned to move from their home in Arlington, Virginia, to another home in the Falls Church area on Friday. They were at the Seven Corners Home Depot Monday night buying supplies when the sniper struck.

She was shot as she and her husband were loading their vehicle in the parking lot outside the store. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

At her home Tuesday, a parade of FBI officials and friends stopped by to pay their respects.

"The Franklin family is devastated by this tragic event," said Bill Murray, a colleague and family spokesman. "Linda's family is shocked by this senseless loss of life and is calling on anyone with any information about this tragedy to contact law enforcement."

He added, "Linda was a loving wife and mother who watched out for everyone in her family, and her loss will affect everyone in the Franklin family, the FBI, the National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC), and the community as a whole."
