School bus driver reports gun threat
GERMANTOWN, Maryland (CNN) -- A school bus driver reported seeing what she thought was a gun pointed at her bus from a white box truck Wednesday along Interstate 270 in Montgomery County, police said. Authorities briefly shut down the northbound lanes of the major thoroughfare to search for the truck. The bus driver, whose bus was empty, flagged down a Gaithersburg police officer to report what she saw and told authorities the truck had lettering on it similar to a composite vehicle described in the search of the sniper, police said. "We're taking this very seriously," said Don Pike with the Gaithersburg Police Department. The report came a day after police disclosed a threat in a letter they believe was from the Washington-area sniper that said: "Your children are not safe anywhere, at any time." The sniper has killed 10 people and wounded three others, including a 13-year-old boy. Last week authorities released a composite of a white box truck that witnesses have reported seeing near the scenes of some of the shootings. The northbound lanes of I-270 were shut all the way to the border with neighboring Frederick County for about 30 minutes. The lanes reopened shortly before 5 p.m., but authorities continued to watch passing cars closely. Authorities told CNN several white box trucks were stopped along I-270, but it was not immediately known if they found the vehicle they were looking for. Montgomery County police would not elaborate further. Maryland state police would only say the interstate was shut down briefly "due to an incident."
