WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Pentagon officials said Friday that additional detention facilities are being built at the United States military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to house an expected influx of accused Taliban and al Qaeda fighters held by U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

A recently completed phase of the detention facility known as Camp Delta is filled to capacity with 384 detainees. The facility replaced smaller, less-refined quarters that the U.S. Southern Command hastily put up at the base after the United States decided to transport the detainees out of the Afghan region.

The recent arrival of more than 80 detainees filled the prison barracks to capacity.

Officials with Joint Task Force 160, in charge of the detainees at "Gitmo," as the base is known in the military, said the task force is working as speedily as possible to build additional detention quarters.
