Algerian arrested on terror chargesMONTREAL, Canada (CNN) -- The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested an Algerian man suspected of being part of a conspiracy to bomb the U.S. Embassy in Paris, police said. Police arrested Adel Tobbichi Friday after receiving a request to extradite him to Holland. Police searched his residence after the arrest. "The suspicion is that he was one of a group of six or seven that conspired to bomb the U.S. Embassy in Paris. The plan was aborted many months back," said Cpl. Richard Huard of the RCMP public information office. Tobbichi, 34, is wanted in Holland on charges of allegedly forging documents as part of a conspiracy to carry out bomb attacks, he said. "It is alleged that Mr. Tobbichi altered passports and other documents" to allow other members of the group to travel easily through Europe, Huard said. Tobbich was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Montreal. Another suspect in Belgian custody allegedly planned to carry out the attack against the embassy. |
