Al Qaeda reward for Western soldiers, dead or aliveBAGRAM, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Al Qaeda and Taliban supporters were circulating leaflets in eastern Afghanistan provinces offering huge rewards for capturing or killing Western soldiers, U.S. military officials said Friday. The fliers offer $50,000 for a dead soldier and $100,000 for one who is still alive. U.S. military officials said this campaign is the latest scare tactic designed to intimidate villagers who are supportive of the rebuilding campaign in Afghanistan. The reward is offered in U.S. currency. There was no indication on the fliers how to claim the rewards. U.S. officials said the fliers are another indication of the danger coalition forces face in Afghanistan and prove that the war against terrorism is far from over. |
