Large Afghan weapons cache found
BAGRAM AIR BASE (CNN) -- U.S. forces in eastern Afghanistan have discovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition, a U.S. military spokesman said Monday. Col. Roger King said the discovery was made Saturday at the village of Zarmaki Ghar and includes surface-to-air and anti-tank missiles. The quantity of weapons was still being determined, King said, but the find may rival an eight-ton weapons cache found last week by British marines in the village of Surwipan near the Pakistani border, the largest weapons find to date. U.S. forces also found weapons near the village of Ordani.
In other developments, King said two rocket-propelled grenades were fired in the direction of the U.S.-held air base at Khowst late Sunday night. U.S. forces at the base were sent out to investigate but found nothing. Sporadic fire has been reported for weeks around the base. |
