KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Two people were slightly wounded when a small explosive device placed in a trash can near the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, blew up Saturday night.
An Afghan government official on the scene described the blast as a terrorist attack, which he said was designed to disrupt the ongoing peace process in the country.
However, there was no immediate information about who have may planted the device.
The blast went off about 9:20 p.m., about 300 yards from the U.S. Embassy.
According to a local military commander, the blast damaged several shops and windows were blown out of nearby buildings. A woman and her daughter were slightly wounded by flying glass.
Afghan and international security forces cordoned off the scene. No one has been detained, the commander said.
Afghan President Harmid Karzai -- the target of a recently failed assassination attempt -- was not in the country at the time.
