Coalition forces find weapons, WTC poster in Afghanistan
BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Coalition forces recently uncovered several Pakistani passports and a poster of the World Trade Center, along with a weapons cache in eastern Afghanistan, a military spokesman said Friday. The discovery was made Wednesday southwest of Khowst in the eastern Afghan province of Paktia, according to Col. Roger King. It was not clear how long the stockpile has existed, King said. The cache included several rocket-propelled grenades, anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, grenades and a variety of ammunition. King also said there were reports of fighting between Afghans loyal to local warlord, Bacha Khan, and the governor of Khowst, Hakim Taniwal. Coalition forces are not involved because the fighting is between two Afghan groups, King said. Khan had been appointed governor of the restive Paktia province earlier this year, but he was ousted by local forces, who refused to let him maintain power. Khan vowed to fight to retake control of the area, underscoring the fragile nature of peace after the Taliban's fall. -- CNN Producer Christopher Jackson at Bagram Air Base contributed to this report.
