JAMMU, India (CNN) -- There were no reports of shelling Monday across the Line of Control in Kashmir as tensions calmed noticeably between India and Pakistan, Indian military officials said.

It was the first break in shelling in what had been three weeks of rising tensions that had seen the nuclear neighbors mass about a million troops along the Line of Control in disputed Kashmir and the India-Pakistan international border.

At least 60 people have been killed in the cross-border shelling on the Indian side of the Line of Control and scores more were wounded.

At least 200,000 people have fled villages on Indian side to escape the barrage.

Indian police did report some small arms fire overnight near Nowshara -- about 100 kilometers (60 miles) northwest of Jammu -- but there were no reports of anyone being wounded.

The drop in tensions follows a visit last week by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.

Armitage told Indian leaders in New Delhi on Thursday that he had secured Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's "commitment ... to stop cross-Line of Control infiltration" by Kashmiri separatists.

The Indian government is expected to announce military and diplomatic initiatives to continued the de-escalation of tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad.
